THIS IS the chapter of The Edinburgh Fringe Survival Guide that introduces the oddball collection of university halls, classrooms, Masonic lodges and back rooms in pubs that Edinburgh offers to anyone wanting to perform.

It gives tips about location, financial deals, technical facilities, time slots and reputation, as well as a section about running your own venue. As usual, it is full of opinions by experienced Fringe hands.

  1. A good book for those interested in putting on a show at the edinburgh festival. Best advice on finding a venue is knowing what you want from the festival and seeing what your shortlist of venues offer in relation to that.
Do you want to be a big fish in a small venue and grab lots of attention or a small fish in a large venue and hope to gather some of someone elses, who will provide what YOU want?

    1. Thanks for that, Fred. Yes, it's a recurring theme of the book: if you know what you want, it's a lot easier to make all your decisions.
